How do you make sure a health app is safe and trusted?

By grounding it in clinical expertise and user needs from the start and testing thoroughly before launch. Apps used in NHS settings are typically assessed against the NHS Digital Technology Assessment Criteria (DTAC), covering clinical safety, data protection, security, interoperability and usability. We’ll help you plan for the standards that apply to your app.

Do we need an app, or would a website be better?

Many health tools work just as well as a mobile-friendly website, or better, without the barrier of a download. Apps come into their own for tools people use regularly, such as exercise programmes or symptom tracking, or where offline access matters. We’ll give you an honest assessment of whether your idea works better as a website or app.

How do you involve patients in UX design?

We involve patients and clinicians throughout, from early research to testing prototypes. Healthcare apps often need to work for people with different abilities, levels of confidence with technology and emotional states, so testing with real users is the best way to make sure the finished app is easy and reassuring to use.
